Do you ever feel absolutely drained or overwhelmed after a being around a lot of people?

If so, you are likely an empath and tend to take on the energies and emotions of others.

This is a very common concern among most of my clients and something that can, thankfully, be easily remedied.

Taking On Everything

Your aura or energy field is porous, allowing in the vibrations of others and picking up on their “vibe”. Without even thinking of it, you welcome in all kinds of feelings, emotional responses, and even opinions or beliefs.

The problem occurs when you are not aware of how the other person’s deep emotions are affecting you.

This is where shielding your energy comes into play.

What is Shielding?

Shielding can help you preserve your energy for the important things in life and can help you gain some perspective throughout your week.

As in the simple exercise I share below, when you shield your energy, you envision a bubble of light around you, protecting you from negativity and keeping your energy sacred and safe.

The reason this works is simple: intention is a powerful thing – where your focus goes, energy flows. By becoming aware of your energy and the effect others have on it, you are more likely to notice when someone or something is making you feel “off”.

In noticing what feels supportive or destructive to your happiness, you are better able to navigate social situations.

The mantra, “Not my circus, not my monkeys” helps.

Safe, not Unsympathetic

You might be thinking, “But isn’t that a little insensitive?”

It’s not.

You are still able to be a good listener, compassionate and kind.

The difference is: you do not take on the other person’s struggle or stress.

When your intentions are to protect your own energy so you can continue to shine and inspire others, it leaves you in a space to send love, pray for others’ happiness, and visualize any drama resolved, with all involved happy and healthy.

During busy times and big gatherings, there is a lot of energy that you as an empath are going to tune into. It is crucial that you welcome in only the “good stuff” and understand that, when it comes to drama, you can only control or help so much.

Taking on worries or frustrations for others is futile.

Remember, you cannot be sad enough to help sad people.

Instead, shield yourself and remember that your best action is to share a smile, a kind word, and send love to those who need it this time of year.

How to Shield Your Energy Exercise

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, relaxing your mind and body.

Once relaxed, envision a shield or bubble of sparkling light (it can be whatever colour you’d like) surrounding you that only love and positivity can penetrate, while the other ‘stuff’ just bounces off for the angels to take to the light of God and purify.

It’s like that saying from childhood, ‘I’m rubber and you’re glue; whatever bounces off of me sticks to you!’

As you go through your day, see all the drama bouncing away and only the good stuff sticking around.

It’s just that simple!

I hope this helps keep you uplifted and optimistic.
